Make A Word

We are using Patricia Cunningham's Make a Word phonics and spelling instruction. The children manipulate letters to see phonetic patterns and spelling rules. We also incorporate vocabulary development, rhymes, homophones and many other skills. The words are in the back of their planners with the master list.

  1. I wish it would be harder! But it's still very fun!

PS I don't get why we do it.

  2. We practice our spelling this way so that we can see patterns in the words we make. We study vowel patterns, blends and digraphs. It also helps us learn new vocabulary words, plus it is more hands on than just getting a list of words to memorize. We hope that you are moving around the letters to find patterns. The list of words will gradually get more difficult.
